Some do, especially members of Catholic religious orders. Many other Christians are simply generous with what they have, sharing freely with the less fortunate, tithing to their church, etc. Incidentally, "the last shall be first" doesn't just refer to money. It refers to the whole attitude of putting the needs of others before your own needs, just as Jesus did.

I always believe that context gives meaning, than, just plain saying it! Hence, the question you have posted demands a more specific situation, if you will. If your intention is to demand such an ethic that needs to be observed by a group of people, I think your understanding is but a reflection of your in ability to understand what you have just said.

My apologies, if I have said it in a much direct manner. But my goal is to satisfy your inquiry, so, let me say this. I believe in what you have cited in your question. I understood it NOT as a sanction but a CAUTION so that an individual/person will not depart from the way of peace but able to understand his/her true humanity. Which is to respect and to love others as he/she respects and loves him/herself!

The meaning of this verse is all about service to others and putting others first. If you put yourself first that you will be last in the Kingdom, but if you put yourself last, then you will be first in the Kingdom of God.

They should, however God doesn't require poverty for ALL believers. The meaning here represents a spiritual low, being humble if you will. It can be taken literally in certain cases though.
