Well, Santa Claus did exist. Known also as Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas. Etc, etc. He was a man who would go out on Christmas eve and give to poor and children. Saint of the Catholic Church. But nowadays he is used definitely as marketing stunt. Businesses use him to hype their products. They go through the kids so the kids will tell mom and dad they want this toy and that. And mom and dad will do. Buy. And do. Makes sales. Works!

The present day version of Santa was created by - believe it or not, Coca Cola during the early 1960's. Many countries had different versions of the Big Man in Red but The Coca Cola style seems to be the one that stuck.

all of it is a grand ploy to squeeze more money out of you.
the true meaning of christmas mostly ,unfortunately,takes a back seat.
