I would like to simulate FEA of spherical dome when subjected to wind and snow loading in NASTRAN but do not know how to do it. Can anybody help me? I used to use axisymmetric element in NASTRAN to do internal pressure and self weight analysis but I dont know how to model the dome using axisymmetric element when it is subjected to wind and snow loading. I have no idea which type of load should be chosen in doing this analysis. Thanks in advance.

Do a pressure load projected normal to a plane. For wind, project normal to a vertical plane; for snow, project to a horizontal plane (down of course).

Estimate your pressure by some simple calculations. Your wind load is the cosine component of the angle where it is applied measured from the horizon, your snow load is the sine component; your package should let you do this.

just do like they do with bridges. Build it then load it till it breaks, measure the load and rebuild to that spec.
