Take a vallium first to relax you, then you wont be stressed to take the xanax.
may also defeat the purpose though.

From the husband of a FORMER Xanax addict.
Use them ONLY as directed, never taking more than is prescribed.
IF you still have problems sleeping DO NOT allow your Dr. to increase the dosage!!!!!!
I also had\have several friends and relatives that are addicted or have been addicted to Xanax, In my opinion, this ^&%#$ drug is very dangerous/addictive.
There are other drugs out there that are not as addictive, that work as well or better than Xanax.

Yes, it is very, very addictive. Take it from one who knows. It is better not to take it at all than to start taking "just a little".
Is this your primary care physician who gave you the Xanax, or a psychiatrist? If it is a psychiatrist, find another doctor. He/she should know better.
Either way, you should talk to your doctor about your concerns. Ask for something that is less addictive. If you are having problems sleeping, use over-the-counter sleep aids like Sominex or Unisom until you can see your doctor and get something else.
Counseling is a good idea, too. If you are experiencing anxiety, a combination of anti-anxiety medication and counseling is the best solution.

I started taking them in that very way. I would suggest flushing them down the commode and asking for something else. They are according to my current doctor who is a highly-respected mental health care specialist and deals with people that are hooked on them every day his quote is "The most dangerous drug on the market." I was addicted to them after my DO prescribed them for 4 years for anxiety, sleep. I was so addicted to them that when I was weaned off of them I had lost all of my social skills completely. He described it as being like having a casted broken bone and the muscle withering under the cast. I had to completely rebuild my people skills and coping skills in order to enter into life again. It was horrible. There are so many other alternatives. I don't smoke or drink or do any other type of drugs...not an addictive personality in any other way!

Xanax is very addictive. It's only supposed to be used short-term.You must be going through a very stressful time in your life right now.Our brain releases endorphins, they are something like Xanax. You can join a walking or jogging group. If you can afford it you can go work out at the gym.The exercise relieves stress, once those endorphins kick in you will notice the difference.Try to stay away from taking sedatives.Sedatives are very difficult to withdrawal from and they also have side affects.Good Luck.

Why don't you consider becoming acquainted with alternatives; like Herbal Tea.
Chamomile is an excellent Tea (non-addictive). For relieving nervous tension.
There is one I keep seeing with a picture of a bear wearing a nightcap and nightgown, snoring, pictured on the box of, the Tea selection.
My ex used to drink a cup, an hour before bedtime, and slept good.

Yes, they are addicitve so only use them when you absolutely have to use them. I use them as a sleeper, too--slows down the overactive brain so you can relax and fall asleep and wake up refreshed, not feeling all drugged out like Nytol or some sleep meds do

if your doctor thinks you need xanax, you need to take them. if you do not have an addictive personality, you should be fine as far as that goes. i have one worst addictive personalities i know and i have been taking xanax for years and have yet to have a serious addiction to them. they make me too tired to take all the time. anyway, take them if you doctor tells you to.

Don't take xanax doctors are drug dealers sometimes. Zanax can haywire your brain chemistry it makes you relax but so does whiskey do see the logic I don't. Take calcium it will help you sleep and relax before you go to sleep.

ONLY take them when you absolutely positively need them....they are addictive. There should be a better option for you...Maybe you should talk to the doctor. I personally have taken klonopin and this did well for me.
