If common sense isn't enought to tell you that rape is a greater sin than stealing a pencil, the Bible makes it clear that some sins are more grievous than others. John writes ... "If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death". (1 John 5:16-17) Obviously if some sins are deadly and others are not, those that are deadly are worse sins. The English word meaning "leading to death" is "mortal", which is why these grievous sins John is writing about are called "mortal sins".
Also, Jesus Himself stated ... "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." (John 19:11) How could someone have "the greater sin" if all sins are alike in God's eyes??

It is not completely correct to say that all sins are the same. All sins have the same consequence. Eternal death. However God does view some sins as worse than other ones. Think about it. Which is worse, to lie about how late you stayed out at night, or to kill a mother and her baby with a hammer. There are obvious sins that are more heinous than others, but every sin has the exact same result. Can one compare sins? I don't think we can..or even should. We should not be saying.."well my sin isn't nearly as bad as hers." Because there is no sin that is okay. When Jesus judges us, we are not compared to other people on earth. We are either covered by His blood, or we are not.

Sin is a sin. Our Pastor always ask at what point is one sin worse than the other. God looks at sin as sin. He don't say you did one worse than the other. All people are born into sin.

A sin is a sin, which is disobedience to the commands of the One True God. Only God and the doer know how serious is that sin.
However, God the omnipotent Creator can restore the perfections of any soul at its sincere repentance as the case of Saint Paul.
Be really very careful, because no one knows the hour of his death.

sins have different levels as far as God is concerned.
There's the general sins:Ten commandments for example
There's abominations:Homosexuality for example
And unforgivable sins:blasphemy against the Holy Spirit for example
Do not let yourself be told and fooled that all sins are the same; cuase their not.

I suppose it's possible to compare them, sure. But...well, everyone sins, so...I'm really not sure. Actually...I don't see the point on dwelling on them in the first place.
