For a very long time I've had bad painful knots in the same spot in my upper back. Sometimes for little parts of the day I don't feel them, but usually they hurt a lot on a regular basis. I've tried laying on a golf ball, I've had my friends/parents try and massage it out, I've tried to massage it out myself, and I use icy hot patches on it and the pain goes away for about an hour after i take the patch off, but it always returns to the same spot. I swim everyday for 2 hours and I do a dryland workout that involves medincine ball throwing, and I carry a backpack around school all day but it's usually very light. Could those be reasons for my back feeling this way, and if so, how can I get rid of these back knots, and what can I do to prevent them from coming back? Should I get a professional massage, or are there things I can do at home to help? Are there any stretches I can do to loosen them up? Feedback is appreciated. =]

DUDE! You're doing EVERYTHING but stretching that bugger out!! The only way to let something go is to RELEASE it.Fold , I mean pin your arms pointing toward the opposite arm against your chest; then rotate the wrist degrees and keep the arm DOWN. Stretch your arms back to yor sides down low, and back above and behind your head. NOW for your back:( we've been working in from the outskirts.) Lean forward while thinking of reaching your head out, hold in an L shape and lengthen, then ease on down. you shoul eventually loosen your head to a kind of floaty feeling dangle.... and SO many of the vertebra right down the middle of your upper back....I love doing this, but I must tell you, you might think stretching is for sissies....start slow and gentle, and expect some soreness anyway.

You are very active, maybe too active.
Try meditation.
If meditation does not relax you and gives you pain instead, lighten your work load.
Get who, or what ever is on your back, off.
An over bearing parent, commitments etc. can influence your posture and this in turn can cause repeated pain.
These people or problems do not go away.
Don't let them cripple you.

I think a professional massage might help they have some great oil to rub on it.I had a message it was Great they can tell you also what might help you.Good Luck
