I have been searching online for this answer, but am coming up with everything, but the one I need. Can you have HCG in your system, and not be pregnant? I went for a blood test yesterday, and it came up negative. When I spoke with the nurse today she told me that my level was at 2.0, and that they consider anything under a 10 negative. I have very regular periods, however this month I got what I thought to be my period one week early, and it lasted for one day. I have heard that blood test are very accurate, and can detect low levels very early in pregnancy. What I am wondering could it be that I tested too early knowing that I tested about 5 days before my period was suppose to be due? Once again can you have HCG in your system, even if you are not pregnant? I thought that it would have came up 0, or -0, if such a thing as that, and not with a low level if any. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question.

HCG can be there in your body without pregnancy. the levels are 0-5 IU/ml in non-pregnant women. however, there are few conditions in which the levels are raised apart from normal pregnancy. you will have raised HCG in vesicular mole, hydatidiform mole, ectopic pregnancy, incomplete abortion, etc. now what we genrally measure qualitatively or quantitatively is the beta-subunit of HCG, which is very similar to beta subunit of few other molecules like TSH. so in case these other molecules are elvated you may still get positive HCG test.so in these case you are not pregnant but the HCG is positive.
sometimes women are given extraneous injections of HCG, and in these cases the test for HCG will come positive. take care.

until eventually you're taking hormone supplementations you would possibly want to not have HcG on your equipment until eventually you're pregnant. once an egg implants interior the uterus your body will launch HcG, until eventually that factor there will be none on your equipment.

Check out this website http://www.pinelandpress.com/faq/hormonelevels.html#female
It lists that 3 weeks and 3 days after your last period you should have a HcG level of 25 if you are pregnant. (That's about 10 days after ovulation).
