Cold Pack they should hve given you one or two when you were leaving the office, heat will only increase the bleeding. Also if bleeding lasts a bit to long, a wet tea bag & bite on it, my oral surgeon told me...they work great!

A cold pack would be the better choice; a heating pad can dilate blood vessels and cause more bleeding. Mostly, though, I'd go with the one that makes you feel better! If you bleed only a little bit, it's not the end of the world :-)

definetely cold. the pain is called by swelling. heat works on pain caused by tension (it will increase blood flow), not swelling.

cold is probably better --- I wonder if you could use Orajel http://www.orajel.com/ or Anbesol http://www.anbesol.com/ to deaden the pain .. it's what I use if I have tooth pain .. also Advil works well http://www.advil.com/painfree/learningcenter/dental.asp
