The circulation could have really been cut off last night. If it isn't better tomorrow I'd have it checked out. I've had that for most of a day, but no longer. It's a drag you can hurt yourself when you're sleeping, isn't it.

blood circulation...he must have slept on that hand throughout the night. It takes a while for the hand to get rid if the numbness sensation. Nothing can be done. The last time I got this, it took me almst a month b4 i got back the strength on that hand

Call his doctor promptly. If you cannot reach his doctor, an emergency room visit would be warranted. It could be a compressed nerve (carpal tunnel, for example) or something else. Numbness that does not resolve should be investigated. If the nerve is being damaged, the longer he waits, the worse it could get, and the longer the recovery. If it's circulatory, it's even more critical.

Sounds very much like a blood clot. Has it turned colors or is it cold? When your hand, or anything for that matter, goes to sleep, it means there has been a restraint on the blood flow. Very little has gotten through, and it takes a minute or so for normal blood flow to resume. If this has gone on all day, it means something is constricting the blood flow and needs to get checked out immediately. You may want to run him to the ER just to go ahead and get it checked out.

Not Good! I'm writing this on Friday eve. If he hasn't gotten
full feeling back in his hand since yesterday, get him to a
doctor. Does he have any numbness on that same side
of his body? Can he close his eyes and touch his index
fingers together easily. Is one eye dilated?

I don't know his age but a stroke can happen at any age.

A couple of possibilities come to mind, mini stroke, MS, pinched nerve. Should probably have it checked out if not better in another 48 hours.
