They are essentially do-gooders who believe the truth will set you free, whether you want to be free or not. What's up with that, anyway?

Well, let me tell you that atheists aren't actuall more aggressive than religious. I've never seen an atheist at a town fair start hollering out in the middle of crowds that if they don't believe they will go to hell. I've never seen atheists on soap-boxes on the corner of a busy street. I've never seen an atheist parading down a crowded subway helfire and damnation.
Many atheists are somewhat educated people that do not suffer ignorance in stride. Still, they have no more tangible evidence to support their position than do Christians, so I guess it's a wash.

In my opinion, anyone with a deep need to convert others to their way of thinking is very insecure in their beliefs and are seeking validation and power in numbers.
Also, I think atheists are less 'trying to convert' people as much as they're lashing out at Chrstianity. The logic still applys, but.. I sometimes I can't blame them.
You guys can be pretty thick.

Cuz they think they have it all figured out... I have no idea... every group has their zealots... it's just somekind of drive people have to spread the truth and make others happy, that in and of itself is not bad... it's part of their personality. On another scale, those kinds of people make good careers in advertizing... It's just another industry after all... if you look at it this way... Ok, so maybe they're not all motivated by the money making desire... there's other values humanity holds.

For the same reason Christians want to convert atheists. They really believe in what they believe in and want other to believe that way also.

I just try to educate a bit in a non biased way. If an education draws people away from god, then so be it.
OK, maybe a bit of a biased way... =P.

I don't give a hoot or not if you convert but if you learn something that converts you from something that's said, fine.
