I got my blood taken on Monday, and now it is purple around where they took the blood from, and i have a bruse that goes down my arm around the vein. It hurts and i am getting these weird cramps in my hand.

its normal. I have it happen all the time. My daughter who is a nurse said it happens to people with small veins and a bad tech. Tell them next time to use a butterfly to draw your blood. Since I started doing that I have not had any problems.

Yes it is normal but.... It is normal for the bruising to show up way afterward. It is normal for the area to turn purple. It is normal for your hands to cramp if a nerve has been hit. I suspect that when the needle was inserted it went all the way THROUGH the vein. If this is the case then it will take a couple of weeks for your arm to feel normal again. HOWEVER If you notice blood pooling (gathering ) near the area or at your skin surface please go an urgent care because that means there was more damage done then your body can safely heal on its own. I'm sorry you have to go through this, the same thing happened to me last year because the person with the needle was new. Good Luck.
