In harbours in hot zones (ie: Bahrain), dolphins are used for harbour security. They are outfitted with a hollow spike connected to a compressed air bottle, and when they detect a swimmer in the water, they proceed to charge it, ram the spike in their chest, which releases the compressed air payload and incidentally kills the swimmer.
Sounds outlandish, but I've actually had to deal with Killer Flippers, as we Canadians like to refer to them as.

to the best of my knolwedge the Navy uses dolphins to sweep for mines, they find the mines and some how relay its postition to their handlers, im not sure about the "killer Flippers" though
