Why would you even think like that? Do you really think God wants His children to mope around feeling persecuted? Come on pal.
Who's place did Jesus Christ take when He, God, gave up His life on the Cross? Yours and mine plus everyone else who would take up their cross and follow Him.
When a person becomes a Christian, they are a new creation in Christ Jesus the Lord. Did you notice that I said Christ Jesus and not Jesus Christ? When Jesus Christ rose from the dead and then ascended into Heaven He became the Anointed One.
He has shown us the Way by becoming the Way. There is not one true Christian that would feel persecuted when they are being persecuted. Its because they have just gain treasures in Heaven when this happens to them.
We Christians know that we are living in the final days of this world age. Soon, very soon, the instead of christ will arrive and there is no more Grace. Just like God, we want everyone to accept Jesus and be saved, but know that it won't happen.
Just maybe after you read all these comments, you to will have a change of heart and join us.><>

Jesus knew that he was the literal son of God . And then as he became a man he knew that he would have to become hated and crucified . So , any thoughts he might have had that he was a know it all were tempered down with the harsh reality that he would die at a young age . Everyone is not only God's kid , but they do have His powers too . And , unless that realization is tempered down with the same humility Jesus had , it can become too tempting not to abuse ones powers . Which is the case with most human beings . So , resolve that you are going to be hated and crucified soon , if not spontaneously combust because you are not ready to handle God's unveiling here in Independence , Mo. next year .

What Jesus said was if anyone wanted to follow Him, he had to deny(say no to) himself and pick up his cross and follow him. What needs then to be asked is, what was the cross for Jesus? I believe the answer is that it was God's appointed task for Him, which secured the highest possible benefit to mankind and demonstrated most perfectly the glory of God. For every true believer who wants to go on with God, He has a path which will involve denying our own earthly temporal desires to pursue the path which brings God the most glory and secures the highest possible benefit to our fellow man. Jesus said "For whosoever wishes to save his life (Greek word here is psuche=soul, which is the seat of the self life; the ego; the "I, Me, My, Mine") will lose it, but whoever is willing to lose his life (self-life) will find it".
As far as "acting like they are being persecuted", take another look. There are Christians dying every day, many losing homes, family, possessions, jobs and freedom for the sake of the Gospel. Perhaps we don't see much of it here yet, but in China, India, Muslim nations, many are paying the ultimate price to follow Jesus Christ.

Some televangelist will say, "once you are saved all your troubles are over." That is a lie, to follow Christ it to take the burdens of Christianity. You no longer want to live the life you had and want to strive to be more like Christ. Every day is a constant battle between the spirit and flesh. We get mocked and made fun of, (not that I mind, it's a badge of honor) just look at some of the questions on this sight.

No. The taking up the cross and following him, is referring to our "self" sacrifice, from the cares, the sins and troubles of this world. Its speaking of "Self" sacrifice.
But, doing this, will bring upon us Persecution.
However, like the Apostle Paul we are to take it as an honor, to be persecuted for Christ shake, and not whimper, moan and complain about it! '

I don't. I like Jesus. WHen I have a cross or problem that I can't handle I tell the Lord to take it. So I would follow Jesus anywhere. He solves all my problems.

Hi Sinyckel. The passage you're referring to is found in Luke 9:23, where Jesus instructs us:
"And He said unto them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
The cross that we take up daily is not our own personal cross. Even though this verse states "let him deny himself", the cross that is in view here is the cross of Jesus Christ.
Viewing this "cross" as a personal situation that we have to endure or suffer through is not what is being taught here. These situations we endure (whatever they are), we can bring to our Lord in prayer and leave them with God.
The cross we take up daily is our focus on Christ. It was through His suffering in Hell for His Children is what we focus on. Daily we remind ourselves of this great sacrifice that was made. We did not deserve this, none of us did. But God in His great Mercy provided for us.
We are then to follow Him, not focusing on our problems or ourselves, but on our Saviour. This can only be accomplished if we are Saved. If we are not, we can still plead to Him, "God, have Mercy on me, a sinner, please save me."

it is symbolic in saying that God wants us to crucify our old self which was dead spiritually so that Jesus can raise us from the spiritual graveyard and give us a new life in Him. and you cant act like youre being persecuted. either you are or you arent. but Jesus did say that if we are oersecuted for His sake there would be a reward in Heaven.

Christians are hated because the world hated Jesus first. He took up that cross, among others, and the believer should and must do the same, WITHOUT murmur. It is our lot, but without whining.

It means a denial of yourself. Even though we are baptized into Christ, our "sinful nature" still remains deep down and wants us to deny the Holy Spirit.
Therefore taking up your cross is denying yourself and living in harmony with the Spirit and what God wants of you.
