Donuts are generally sweeter and FILLED/COVERED with sugar and sometimes (if you're lucky) sprinkles!!!
Bagels...you tend to make sandwiches out of because they're sliced in half...and they're like...bread...

A bagel is not as sweet as a donut, and is made from a heavier dough that does not have to rise in the same way as a donut. Also, a bagel is boiled in water and then baked, whereas a donut is fried in hot oil.

thats a silly question but ill give you the techincal reasoning.
The bagel (or sometimes beigel; Yiddish בײגל beygl) is a bread product traditionally made of yeasted wheat dough in the form of a roughly hand-sized ring which is boiled in water and then baked. The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior.
The dough may also be flavored to produce many traditional varieties: salt, onion, garlic, egg, pumpernickel, rye. There are also many nontraditional modern varieties: tomato dill, cajun, bran, sourdough, whole wheat, multigrain, cinnamon-raisin, chocolate chip, cheese, caraway, blueberry, and muesli among others. Bagels may be topped with seeds such as poppy or sesame, which are baked onto the outer crust.
A related bread product is a bialy, which has no hole, is often onion or garlic-flavored, and is less crispy on the outside.
Though often made with sugar, malt syrup, or honey, bagels should not be confused with doughnuts (donuts).
A doughnut, or donut is a sweet deep-fried piece of dough or batter. The two most common types are the torus-shaped ring doughnut, and the filled doughnut, a flattened sphere injected with jam/jelly, cream, custard, or another sweet filling. A small piece of dough, originally made from the middle of a ring doughnut can be cooked as a doughnut hole. Doughnuts are usually fried, but in rare cases the dough is squeezed into a ball and rested between the rims of an electric cooker.

Well, the ingredients would be my first choice followed by how they are made. Bagels are usually boiled first then baked and come out very dense, whereas donuts are just baked and come out light and fluffy.

A bagel is boiled, a donut is fried or baked. Donuts are typically sweeter and come topped with sprinkles, frosting, nuts, etc. Bagels may come topped with sesame seeds, herbs, etc.
