believe it or not sometimes folks have medical problems that causes them to have body odor. at the same time, sometimes they are oblivious to it. if this is someone at work then the human resources office should handle it.

if this is a personal friend you will have to find the courage to do so.

ask them if they have a medical problem and then state why you are asking :)

good luck!

Not really. I mean, I have seen other moms who have 2 children, are divorced, and are able to keep a roof under their heads and a brain functioning.I know that the media is a big influence, but if Britney really wants her kids and her life back, she should start to make an effort. She should stop going to parties, and she should try to wear normal clothes, and she should try to accept that she no longer has custody of her kids( regarding thursday's inccident) I'm sure she can handle being a celebrity without getting drunk, or using drugs, or speeding up on the highways, etc. That way, if she does all these things, the media will maybe get a little softer and stop getting into her private life( obviously, the papparazzi only want to take pictures of celebrities who are out of their minds) But yes, I agree with you. Her kids are no better with "K-Fed" then they were with her. But again, I don't feel sorry either for Britney, or Jamie Lynn. I only feel for those kids, God knows what they are going through.

Most don't realize it. For some it is beyond their control. Despite meticulous hygiene, they still have a body odor. These people need medical intervention but may be too embarrassed to seek help for this problem. On top of this people around them think that they are unclean.

Factors that may contribute to chronic body odor other than poor hygiene:
An imbalance in the bacteria that inhabit the gut. Antibiotics may contribute to this condition.

An inborn error of metabolism or some other problem that may cause about 7% of those suffering from body odor to be unable to digest certain foods. These undigested foods, which are often proteins, cause the body to give off unpleasant odors.

Certain medications taken over a long period of time.

Do people who stink not realise it or is it beyond their control? Should we feel sorry for them ?

Most of the time it will be because they don't know they smell bad. Either they get used to the smell or they don't know their deodorant doesn't work for them. If someone is compassionate and tactful they can begin a conversation with the offender, usually with a question and talk about hygiene and deodorant. Something like, (acting somewhat embarrassed)"Hey do you mind if I ask you a question? I've been having some trouble with my deodorant lately it seems to fail after about two hours. Mind if I ask what you use? You can also try this, (acting concerned) "Hey mind if I ask you a question? I shower everyday and my skin is drying out like crazy, do you shower everyday? What do you use to keep your skin from drying out. Either of these two approaches is considerate of the offenders feelings yet gets the message across. Not too many people discuss bathroom habits with others. Hope it helps.

I think that sometimes people who stink actually do realize it, but continue to let themselves stink as a way to keep others at a safe distance. Maybe they have no self-esteem or were not raised to take proper care of themselves, and in that sense, I really do feel sorry for them. Unless you can find a very tactful way of telling someone that they should pay more attention to their personal hygiene, I would try to stay out of range (or up wind) from them.

Some may not realize it but there are certain conditions that people cannot control. I used to work with a man that sweat a lot I can't remember the name of his condition but he would constantly be putting deodorant on. He knew he smelled and was very embarrassed about it but couldn't control it.

After smelling a smell for a while, you get used to it and don't smell it anymore.

In the case of stink, though, some people like smells that other people don't like. So perhaps the person could smell it and doesn't think that it smells bad like you do.

they may not realise it and it is not beyond their control. You can make friendly suggestions about getting shampoo or something. feeling sorry does not reduce their smell (no one stinks!). If they are friends, try to help them, if they are people out there, simply try staying away from them.

This is something you learn in psychology. First, lemme ask you, do you feel the underwear you're (hopefully) wearing right now? Did you feel it before i asked you? Well, when you stimulated by a stimulus for longer than.. some time, you adapt to it and no longer notice it. He doesn't notice there's an odor.
