Given that chihuahuas and rat terriers are both hyper and yappy - what do YOU think a mix of the two would be like??? Not hard to figure this one out!

They of course can carry traits of both breeds, more of one or the other or both. In my experience, Rat Terriers are a bit more laid back and more under self control than Chihuahuas. Most Rat Terriers atleast acknowledge their owners wishes and make reasonable attempts at obeying even when the situation is very exciting to them, whereas I have seen Chihuahuas uncontrolably try to yap and ankle bite to the point that even the owner has a hard time catching them to "put them up". Both breeds can be nervous due to smaller size and the need to protect themsleves from harm. (They are delicate and even picking them up can be painful to them if it is not carefully done.) They are very loving little creatures that have a heart of gold and are smart enough to learn like any dog. Many people do not spend much time in "training" a dog so tiny...because it might seem like a waste..they are so easy to care for...but it's not a waste, all dogs should have obediance training.

One of my neighbors has an ancient chihuahua, and a couple of other dogs whose breeds I'm not at all sure of. And this little old dog will yap whenever he sees me walking to one of the local stores. It's rather funny: He seems to think he's the biggest baddest thing in the universe.

they are both overgrown rats that yap their heads off constantly.

I have been around one. He was psycho, mean, and loud.
