He didn't become the boss by not being able to communicate his intentions. He probably looks your way a lot, because you're nice to look at. Be patient and let him make the first move; IF those are his intentions. Continue to do your job ... at work. If he continues to help you; that's great. Maybe you'll get beyond his direct management and then you can speak up, if you still feel the same way.

I would suggest, try to talk to him in a friendly manner. Invite for some friendly parties or something like that. You can mention to him, as he has take care of you at work. See if you like his manners. Watch how he behaves towards other people in the office. Is is generally good to everyone or only good to you.
Talk to him in a hypothetical situation, that if he would date a girl like you. And if so hypothetically what he likes about you.
That might create an opening. If he's interested truly, then he might let you know .
Remember all relationships doesn't end up in success. So if something goes wrong, there are only certain ppl, who can really separate business from personal. If you're boss is not one of them, then you'll pretty much lose your job.
If you don't care much about the job, then it's ok. Sex and relationships gets a person closer to one another, where there is enough time and space to find out the weakness and faults of each other. Sometimes it can get ugly.

Look for a better job (you'll be so busy thinking in smarter bosses that you won't even remember about this guy). Perhaps you won't get that job, but in the meantime, the struggle will help you to have in mind this working system generates narrow-minded people who are not able to see beyond the office cubes. It is sad but real and one day you'll find yourself weary of paying attention to the wrong facts of life. A good sign.

Flirt with him. Don't make it too noticeable, but enough to tell whether he is interested, or not. Age isn't a problem, if you don't mind that kind of age difference. Ask him to go to coffee, to talk about business, but actually, don't say a thing about it unless he starts talking about it. Don't be afraid to put a light move on him like that. Do that a couple of times, and then move to dinner. If you have to get the realation-SHIP-SAIL EN , get the wind blow en.
Hope everything works out,

That has the potential to seriously backfire on you, especially since he's your boss, AND you don't know if he likes you back. Or even if he's involved with someone else.
I wouldn't do anything about it until you're ready to leave the job if needs be. Even if it works out, you would be involved with the boss, which means that it would hurt your coworkers (how do they know that you aren't being treated better than they are just because you're involved with him?)

Try to remember the awkard feelings from highschool, now intensify by a million. I know, i've been there.
