Last night on the History Channel: The Gnostics were described as those who opposed the physical aspect of Jesus bringing salvation to us. They concentrated on the intellectual method of using Jesus' message to achieve eternal life, after our stay here on Earth.
For an internet search, see "Essenes" -
This sect was rejected because it quoted Jesus' instruction to Pray to both Our Father in Heaven and our Mother Earth, or words to that effect.
PS: Bubba preachers now and at the time referred to them as Agnostics. But they referred to themselves as Gnostics.
"mypublic" is being sarcastically and ironically funny. But, he brings up a good point.
Just search "Essenes" and it will all be very clear to you.

Gnostic means "Knowing." They seem to take it from a different view, using other canonical books of the bible. (However some books are highly questionable, (due possibly, to the abundance of writing that took place back then.) by who is the legitimite author of them. There is a book that gets deeper into the Naj Hammadi scrolls that I was reading, but to be honest it felt like it was mixed in with the Greek Gods or something. No disprespect.
Check it out at your library. It might help you

This is natural.
The world is becoming populated with problems new and complicated. Faithful people may become gnostic, gnostic people may become atheistic, and vice-versa...However, with the means of the Internet, humanity can quickly learn the lesson of world unity to solve global problems. The more we learn, the greater we will have.

I think there are a lot of people who are interested in Christianity but are turned off by the mainstream churches, so they begin looking at the alternatives.

I hope and pray that just as many people seem to be getting into agnosticism!!! Wait, there is a contradiction there... I merely hope that just as many people are becoming agnostic!
