The over the counter products work really well but I would discard all brushes and combs and get new ones. Also all stuffed animals should go in the dryer and wash all bed linens and clothes. Remember they can live up to 24 hr off a host so everything should either be washed or put in the dryer.

Forget about the natural treatments "mayonnaise or Vaseline" the OTC products really do work.

You may not be a believer in herbs, but, then again you might be allergic to medically used poison insecticides.... so.... believe it or not, lice hate ROSEMARY !! It's cheap in bulk at herb/ health-food shops,
Directions: this taks 4-6 weeks to prepare -- but, by all means be prepared
Take a couple ozers ov the DRY herb, and cover with any oil, but people like almond or olive most, set in dark, cool place and shake vigorously 2x ea. wk. for 4-6-8 weeks,
The lice will hate this when you rub it on & your skin & hair will love it just as well It is used in fancy shampoos & conditioners, and you can use this as a hot oil treatment for the fractional cost. Lavender is good for both too, and the smell is favored. Give each herb a good whiff b4 purchace, because the smell will be kinda strong, but it is stronger if you use rubbing alcohol, and USE lavender as as scent, then; and u can run the same alcohol thru a few batches of LAVENDER to make a pore-cleansing muscle pain relief rub.

(Best) Buy an electronic lice comb. It is available at almost any store next to the lice shampoo. It is battery powered and zaps the lice when it finds them. It costs around $20 but only requires new batteries now and then.

(Good) Cetaphil skin cleanser- sounds strange but it works.
Walmart has an equate brand. See source below for more information

You still need to wash all of your linens in hot water.

first you have to buy some lice treatment from the drug store. second off you must go through entire hair and pull out all the nits (little white things) if you dont remove all these then you will not be rid of lice. Then you must treat everything in your home bedding including mattress sofa pillows etc..washing everything in hot water may work but they make a spray that you can spray everything with it..its alot faster but a bit more costly..

All of the answers are good. You need to do them all but the thing that works and will get them gone is the Electronic Lice Comb! You can get it at wal mart. Use this every night. It is good to use because you can't use the chemicals on the head often enough and this comb will kill anything that hatches in between the waiting period of the shampoo! I promise it works.

not sure what J/W means, but you can use over the counter products from the drug store,,,, though they are strong and toxic,,, though still safe,,,,, also what works good on human hair is to use vegetable oil,,,, just comb it threw, put alot on,,,,, then wash it out the next day or that night,,,,, (wrap the hair in saran wrap) do not use this on animals,,,, as it would cover too large an area of their bodies,,,,, there are also some natural lice products sold on the internet,,,,,,,,,

My daughter went through this with her girls, first of all you need to stop hanging around the people you are getting them from, otherwise nothing will help. What finally got rid of them was when they got a new puppy full of fleas and we put on some Herts flea and tic ointment you rub into their fur. The girls would pet the puppy and scratch their heads and ended up killing their lice as well. It smells like baby powder. She also got rid of the jerk whose family her children were always getting them from.

An OTC lice treatment. Also, be sure to wash your bed linens in hot water and Lysol as well as soak your combs and brushes in a Lysol bath to kill any eggs.

they don't like hair that has conditioner in it (so they say). vinegar is another way...but I would think it stinks. That's about all I can tell you.
