Let's get real : for or against the war doesn't matter when it comes to the soldiers. Those magnets and people with them are pathetic JOKES. Why do they think that is all they have to do to be helpful to the soldiers?

You stop whining and go to the website or then adopt a soldier and save the money for a magnet. Use the saqvings on a stamp to send a letter to a soldier. Every soldier I support thinks the magnets are for lazy people that want to pretend they are "supporting" soldiers

They should say, "I support the Chinese children who made this magnet and the Indian guy who sold it to me".

Yellow magnets and Yellow ribbons are a sign that someone is wanted home. That someone is usually a Soldier.
So!
LETS GET REAL! Both of my boys are in the military and one of them is laying beside my computer desk with a big gaping wound in his hip. Those yellow magnets Mean something to us!
The only Pathetic JOKE is the person that is so self righteous they think a yellow magnet is trivial.
You really want to help a soldier? Don't put down the feelings or actions of anyone that shows any kind of support!
I'm going to tell you something that might just surprise you.
I did 22 years in the Army. No one ever offered me a yellow ribbon or a yellow magnet and I was in the first gulf war.
Don't belittle anyone that shows a soldier some respect.

How can you make the assumption that just because someone has a yellow magnet on their car, that the magnet is the ONLY thing they do to support soldiers?
And despite what you might think, these people are not pathetic jokes. They at least have the conviction to put this symbol of support on their vehicles. I find it more supportive and constructive than someone who whines in here on Y!A.

it's mainly to let the public know that they are affected by the war somehow with a family member being deployed overseas. i don't have one on my car just because everyone does and i really would rather not let the whole world know that my husband is gone. also, i don't think there is anything wrong with having a ribbon, i just choose not too. it doesn't prove in anyway that they aren't supporting the troops being gone in another way. the only soldier i support is my husband when he is gone. i don't want to right other people or send packages. mainly because i do not have the funds too.

Your point would be...what? If you were only trying to ask for REAL support of our troops, you failed to make yourself clear.

I'm the mom of two Marines and I'm a proud USAF/SAC brat. My father, uncles, grandfathers and further back have served this country willingly for generations. My family has already given much back to America. But I know families who have given much more - and they mourn.

I have a yellow ribbon sticker on my beloved '76 Ford Maverick. I also have three bumper stickers that say "STOP GLOBAL WHINING" "My kid fought in Iraq so yours could party in college" and "Sit down, shut up and let my Marine do his job".

If people want to have a magnet for their car, let them, but don't even begin to assume you know their intentions. Yes, some people only give lip service to troop support. But the next person you see with that magnet might be a Gold Star Wife or Mother who has given more than you realize.

Pathetic jokes, my six. Unless you know the person for sure, assume nothing and give them the benefit of the doubt. The world is better when you believe for the best.

Yeah I know, those are kind of stupid..

If you support the troops then adopt one and such.. Send them silly strings, good food, toiletries, body armor (stronger then issued), and new uniforms if possible... Etc etc..

But if you can't afford to do that then you can stop people who insult troops and such. But I don't think buying a yellow ribbon and leaving it as that is good enough, seems like a sick joke (unless you do other things to help/support)... Yeah, I'm just saying putting a ribbon and leaving as it is isn't good enough, I think there is more to be done then just spending 1.93...

Visiting VA? Helping injured soldiers? Sending people in Iraq things we have here but they don't..? etc..

obviously you are not in the military or even understand what it means to us soldiers knowing that the american ppl are thinking of us while we are facing these hardships. just lil things like yellow ribbon magnets are a symbol of support and that means alot to the most of us. its more or less a tradition...but like i said you obivously dont know a damn thing about that. so why dont you think twice before you make comments like that!?

Who says that ALL we do? I've done plenty else. And did you know that most of the money that goes towards those purchases are given to charities who are shipping gifts, supplies, etc. to our troops in Iraq? Probably not.

A yellow ribbon is a long standing symbol of support for the military forces that are off fighting the war. I believe it started with young women wearing yellow ribbons to symbolize that their boyfriend/husband was gone, and that she was awaiting his return.
