Cats are very smart.Put the litter box in a place that gives her some privacy and make sure she is aware of where it is.Also it may be necessary to keep it a little cleaner than normal for a while because she is used to going outdoors in a fresh spot. She will do the rest.Good luck and God bless.

I had to do this once before with a stray. Most of the time she would use the litter box after being showed where it was. But we had a few times she didn't.

If you catch your kitty not using the box. Pick her up, after she is done so you don't spread it through the house, and put her in the box. If you don't catch her doing her business, then take her to it before you clean it up. Don't smack her or put her nose in it, instead show it to her and firmly say "no" or "bad kitty" and take her to her litter box. She will catch on.

Now with her messes, make sure you clean them up well. If you don't get the smell out, she will keep going back to thoes areas.

Also, pay attention to where she is having accidents. If they are in the same spot, try putting a litter box there. She might not like where her litter box is.

Housetraining Success: Reward for Using the Litter Box
In order to reward your cat for eliminating in her litter box, you must be there at the time she eliminates. You need to have some idea of when your cat urinates and defecates. Most cats, especially kittens, will eliminate shortly after waking; after eating; and after exercise.
To help you predict when your cat will eliminate, feed her at regular times. If the input is on a regular schedule, the output will follow likewise. Before feeding your cat, spend ten to fifteen minutes playing with her. Then put down the food, allow her fifteen minutes to eat and then clear up any leftovers. After your cat has eaten, it is time for another gentle play session. Call her to her litter box from a variety of places around your house, especially areas where she has soiled. When your cat gets to the box, scratch the litter to get her interested. Similarly, throughout the day, whenever your cat has been asleep for over two hours, wake her up and call her to the litter box. Encourage your cat to hop into the litter box, praise her when she does so. Even if she does not eliminate, she is learning that the litter box is a great, CLEAN place to be. This is especially important for cats that are now avoiding the litter box because they assume it is always dirty or because they associate it with being punished. If your cat does eliminate, praise her in a gentle voice. Once she has finished, gently stroke her, give her a treat and take the time to tell her how pleased you are.

If the cat has had human owners before, she will know what to do. If she has not, then you need to make sure to keep the cat in a tiled place until she is litter box trained, and the litter needs to be changed after she uses it every time.

Take her little paws and show her how to scratch in the litter, this usually makes the lightbulb go on. If she poops or pees somewhere else, retrieve it and put in her litter box, repeat the scratching lesson. Kudos to you for adopting a street kitty.

You can start with dirt, pine needles, things like that. The kitty will be used to using that. Gradually mix in litter...a little more each week until eventually it is all litter. I was told by a couple of people that this worked for them.
Also, you may want to start with an open little box instead of one with a lid. When he is using it well, you can try a lid and see how he does.
Good luck and contrats on your new family member.

I'll bet you don't have to do any training at all. Just show kitty where the box is and s/he'll know what it's for.

She will learn on her own just put the box in a quiet place that she can get to. My feral cats all learned on their own how to use the box as soon as they were able to walk.
