They named them stars. Or in their language, prolly something like "mooki mooki," depending on how ancient we're talking.

It took a loooonnnnngggg time for anyone to figure out that a star and a sun were the same thing.

They saw sparkling little dots in the night sky and called them stars. I dont think they knew exactly what they were.

They called them stars, that's just a name for them they made up.,
In fact, they had no frikin clue they were other "suns" with little planets and moons orbiting around them...and that our Sun is a "star" itself.
crap, many idiot people today still aren't very aware of that.

You do understand that they had no concept of what a star was....holes in the fabric of our universe....lights placed by the gods in the sky to predict future events....souls....
They didn't know they were nuclear engines burning away in space.
