4 thousand years ago the below prophecy was given to Daniel by the Angelic Messenger Gabriel.

In Daniel 12:4 we read; But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

I believe it is talking about present day. There has been such an explosion of knowledge and technology. Some believe it refers to the bible codes.

(Daniel 12:4) Yes, the prophecy has to do with the time of the end—a period that started in 1914. During that marked time, many would “rove about” in the Holy Scriptures, and with the help of holy spirit, true knowledge, including an understanding of Bible prophecy, would become abundant. (Proverbs 4:18) As we get deeper into that time, more and more details of the prophecies of Daniel have been clarified.

The critical Hebrew word here, shÅ«t, in itself does not have the meaning of “to examine or to scrutinize,” as consultation of several Hebrew-English dictionaries will disclose. The basic meaning of the verb is “to move about.”

The expressions “the time of the end” and “the appointed time of the end” appear six times in the book of Daniel. (Daniel 8:17, 19; 11:35, 40; 12:4, 9) They pertain to “the last days” foretold by the apostle Paul. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Jesus Christ referred to this period as his “presence” as enthroned King in heaven.—Matthew 24:37-39.

5 Daniel 12:4 states: “As for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant.” Much of what Daniel wrote was made secret and sealed up to human understanding for centuries. But what about today?

6 In this time of the end, many faithful Christians have ‘roved about’ in the pages of God’s Word, the Bible. The result? With Jehovah’s blessing on their efforts, true knowledge has become abundant. For instance, anointed Witnesses of Jehovah have been blessed with insight, enabling them to understand that Jesus Christ became heavenly King in the year 1914. In keeping with the apostle’s words recorded at 2 Peter 1:19-21, such anointed ones and their loyal companions are ‘paying attention to the prophetic word’ and are absolutely certain that this is the time of the end.

However, the verse refers to a good work. In harmony with the facts of the day, the verse appears to indicate that Jehovah’s faith-acquiring people would dig for the truth by carefully examining the Scriptures, and He would reward them with an abundance of true knowledge, which, of course, they would share with others.

you know there was a time when i had an answer to that one, but it no longer fits...the word is for Daniel to shut up the words and seal the book, to hide the meaning of what is said until the end time. the many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased does not necessarily refer to the end times tho many preachers put it in that context. i no longer think so...i don't have the answer but i know what the answer is NOT. if that makes any sense.

It means that the prophecy will only be understandable during the time of the end (of this worldly system of things). Interesting note: people run to and fro on the earth pretty readily these days; could it be this is the time of the end spoken of? Food for thought!

it means that the words in the book that were sealed would be more readily understood at a future time when knowledge had increased
