my grandparents usually go with cheap stuff (p.js) and they are almost 70. What is the norm?

How well off are they?
Many grandparents have a lot of grandchildren and not a lot of money.
And, what is it you are saying, you think they should get you big ticket items? Get a job and buy them yourself.

I don't, didn;t and won't give big ticket gifts, even if I could afford it (which I can't). I believe in installing a work ethic in my children and grandchildren.

I would say, be thankful you have grandparents able to give you ANY gifts, and don't be a spoiled child in attitude.

BTW ... for some people, P.J.'s is not a cheap gift .... this year I couldn't afford gifts of any price, so I made a family memories DVD for everyone. I sure hope none of my family has YOUR attitude ...

I can't tell you what the norm is it depends on your family and how you grew up. Well that's younger than my father, and I never met my grandfather's . Well I kinda have but I was about 10months old when my grandpa died. My grandmother's are still alive, and I don't think I got anything but maybe a card with money, maybe. A card with money maybe is fine and was always fine with me. Be thankful that you have a relationship with your grandparents or anyone in your family for that matter.

I don't understand what you mean "presents from the gramps"...Then you talk about grandparents....anyway, be thankful you have grandparents and that they buy you anything since you sound like an ungrateful, spoiled brat. P.J.s are not necessarily cheap and even if they were, say thank you and enjoy your grandparents while they are alive.

The norm is what you can reasonably afford. You can always give them a beautifully wrapped box that contains a piece of paper on which you have written I Love You!

why does it matter?
it isn't about what you got or how much you got but the fact that someone thought enough of you to go out and fight the crowds to buy you anything at all...or even make you something special.
