We are going to be going on long road trips with our young children this holiday season. We have a 3yo who often gets carsick after a long trip. Any suggestions? We have tried stopping more often, I think it almost makes it worse.

Have you heard of Seabands? They sell them at most supermarkets. They have instructions on where to place them and they are pretty much tight (not too tight) bracelets with little balls on the inside the hit pressure points that help to control nausea. I had bad motion sickness as a child and those helped for me. Unfortunately, they don't help now. But it's worth a shot! Maybe you could see if they can take Dramamine or if there is a child's version. That helped me. Maybe have your 3 year old sit in the middle so he/she can look out the window in front. Staring ahead at the road helps me...but looking out the side window makes me sick. Try not to let him "read" or color etc...that can make it worse.

Good luck. I know how stressful it is. But be patient with your child too...it's really bad because I used to get in trouble for whining, but it was b/c I was getting sick. Also, maybe you should keep cool ice packs or something on hand...being cool helped relieve nausea or prevent it from getting worse. And making sure I have a full (more like satisfied) stomach BEFORE leaving helps...for some reason, if I'm hungry, I get even worse!

Hope it helps!!

Front seat looking straight ahead. I always got sick in the back seat. It isn't good to read or be looking down or behind you while riding. I used to hate going any where when I was little. It seemed to help if I had eaten about 1hour before we left. I don't remember getting sick if I slept on long trips so maybe some dramamine for motion sickness (makes you sleepy) and it is over the counter. Maybe if your children take naps it will help. The main thing is not looking behind or reading. Good Luck and try the Dramamine it works!

Oh my gosh. When my daughter was 18 mon we went on a road trip from michigan to georgia/tennesse and she was sick the entire time. So we just went on a raod trip from michigan to florida this summer and I got smart. No food before we left. I had the car seat wraped in a garbage bag. Plastic bag for nasty clothes. Baby wipes and water for clean up and something to drink afterwards. And a bowl so it didn't get every where. She only threw up a few times. It was terrible.

There really isn't anything. Try to go at night so they can sleep. That seems to help.

I get car sick and i find using pressure bands on the wrist helps. I still feel ill but it stops me vomiting. Also try something with lemon and ginger (drink or lollies or something). Another way, leave when he or she is tired because then they will sleep and wont feel sick. Leave a window down, fresh air helps and try to get them to look out the front window rather than the sides!

Hope this helps
