you have to do what you have to do. Maybe you won't be called. At least you're not going as a prisoner.

When I lived in WI I was summoned twice. You were on call for one month. It was no big deal because Madison isn't huge and the court house is downtown and I worked downtown. Served on a couple of juries and everything. Now, I live in Chicago and have for the past 21 years. I have been summoned 3 times and know people that have lived here all their life and have never been summoned. I had to go way out to Rolling Meadows. The good thing about that was that it was by IKEA. Then I had to go out to 26th and California. That is the criminal court. I didn't have a car and even if I didn't I wouldn't have drove. It was the dead of winter and it took me 1 train and 2 buses to get there. Didn't get picked for a jury there either. The last one was just downtown. Easy again I just took one train. Now I pray that I will never be called again.

Different people are called for different things. If you are on call for a whole month it just probably means that the likelyhood of your group number being called is low. Once your are called in , your time is spent and its over. Most court systems using this call in system have disregarded that people need to make plans with their employers and it puts an undo burden on both. A week is bad enough, but to expect a juror and their employer to be ON CALL for a month is ridiculous.

Where I live, grand jurors serve for a year. Probably it's two different systems, local and federal. You can just call and ask.

Not a direct answer to your question, but please ignore the above advice about throwing it away! Don't let the government/judicial system make you an apathetic non-participator.
As they say, the only way you can win is if you play the game. Apathy and laziness is for leaches and those afraid to take ownership of their government. :)
