I take the occasion 1 mg of Xanax, as needed, for anxiety. I know mixing alcohol and Xanax is not a good idea, but the prescription lists it just as a warning.

How bad of an interacation can occur with drinking a half bottle of wine (2-3 glasses) a couple hours after taking a 1 mg Xanax? It seems to me that I would just get a little more drunk. I am 5'9-5'10 and 165 lbs w/ a high tolerance for alcohol.

Thanks!

Or, how long after taking 1 mg of Xanax is it reasonably safe to drink 1-3 glasses of wine. I've never mixed before, but I did take a 1 mg Xanax a couple of hours ago, and then was unxpectadly invited to a holiday party
.
Thanks

Why not just do away with the anxiety? The Burns method got rid of my depression/anxiety forever... now I can live like any drug free individual.

In either case of withdrawal, the chance of suffering an alcohol withdrawal seizure exists.

Not sure what his purpose was there, but it was purposeful I believe.

Sounds like you got one with at least some type of benzo in it though.

When I was in my late 40s, I used to drink a half-pint of whiskey and take .5mg of Xanax. It never did anything but help me sleep. So I guess I am lucky. I do not drink any more and Xanax is also a thing of the past.

Why dont you just ensure that if you're going to be drinking alcohol you avoid Xanax? They will intensify the effects of each other so you wont only feel 'a little more drunk' but the drowsiness and dizziness that can be caused by Xanax will be increased.

They dont put warnings on your medication just for something to do, it really is best to avoid alcohol use with Xanax.

It would take huge amounts of Xanax and alcohol to cause an adverse reaction, but it is still not a good idea to mix them. If you know you are going to be drinking, then don't take the xanax until 8 hours after you have stopped drinking.

Tests are inconclusive about the effect of alcohol when taking anti-anxiety/anti-depressants.

I wouldn't reccomend it. I'm on meds, I took the alcohol warning lightly and negative effects were immediately felt (hallucinations). Since then I got the idea that mixing isn't a great idea.

Yes you will feel more drunk. However be in a safe place. Me and everyone else I know who has done this will act really out of character, way past being drunk. Violent alot of times. It doesn't matter if you are a violent person or not. Also I have never heard of anyone not blacking out when mixing the two. So be prepared to not know what happened the night before. And hope you didn't piss anyone off too bad. Cheers!
