People suddenly believe in God when they're going to die becaue they are afraid. No one knows what happens when we die, and the thought of going to a fiery inferno as non-believers are told we will ( i know, i'm not supposed to answer...but i think that non-believers are more apt to know the answer to your questions!) is a very scary prospect. Believing in God comforts the fear of death and reassures you that there is something good waiting for you on the other side. People are afriad to die; afraid to leave their loved ones, what they know, etc. Believing in God lets you let go of those things.
From a psychology standpoint, history and research show that religion wasn't created until men's frontal lobes developed and we could conceptualize death.
Or, maybe, like Constantine, they lived really mean lives and are repenting on their deathbed out of fear.

By the way....do you notice how some of the people who answered this question can't read.
The person asking this question stated:
Oh yeah, if you don't believe in God, please don't answer. It is really hard to give your opinion on a topic that in which you do not believe. Thanks for your understanding.
Does someone have to have a "source: to ask a darn question??? Oh wait, maybe I should ask that question, oh wait I don't have a source to ask that question.

Because deep down inside there is what you could call a "God consciousness" in all of us.
"because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen
being understood through what has been made,
so that they are without excuse." Romans 1:19-20

Well. people that are getting ready to die realize that everything they did without putting God in their life has failed. But since God is not like us. He stills walk with you during your good and bad times in your life. He didn't walk away from us we walked away from him.
But God still opens his arms for us to enter with forgiveness. And besides would you want to go to eternal damnation or the streets that are paved with gold and all the other riches he has promise ?

I think it's because they do believe in God and heaven deep down but choose to not live life as a believer but then when they are about to die, reality hits and they know they are going to hell. Also, when you are about to die (I can only imagine anyways) you'll do anything to live so some feel that if they quickly repent then they will continue living in heaven.

Because all their life, even if they outwardly wouldn't admit it, they had that thought in the back of their mind of 'what if I am wrong and God DOES exist?
If God gives them enough time in their last moments, they need to do the wise thing they've been avoiding all their lives. That is invite Christ into their hearts and repent of their sins.

Because they come to a realization. I dont know, because Ive never been near death, but I know a heck of a lot of old people who close to the end come to peace with God and actually talk about seeing Jesus. Fluke? Maybe yes, Maybe no....
I think its God giving you one last chance.

Well its because they look back over their life and see how quickly it sprang before them, the things they took advantage and took for granted, and they fear what waits for them beyond death because it is one of the biggest mysteries, so at the last minute they figure I better get right with God because He's the only person who really promises anything after death, and that coupled with the fear of hell does it.

It is true. In my family there are alot of nurses, I grew up volunterring my time and being around alot of elderly folk. I talked with them and helped them and eventually they almost always came to Christ in the end. It moved me. I think they just didn't want to live their life to the bible because it is not an easy life and they wanted to live guilt-free, but in the end agree that there are wonders of life that have no explaination and Jesus is the savior of their sins. In the end we all agree we need a savior.

Some people do, it isn't always the case though. The answer can be found, by Kubler-Ross [Sp?]. It is simply a stage of death, where one tries to bargain to stay alive. God is the most accessible. It's normal.
