If this is the first day of his illness, let his system rest and try to keep him comfortable. As hard as it is to watch, vomiting and diarrhea is his body's way to rid itself of a virus. Offering food food and drink when they don't feel well doesn't help. He'll refuse it and then get suspicious of anything you try to give him! Think how you feel when your stomach is upset. Nothing sounds good! If the diarrhea and vomiting get worse, or if this goes on for more than a day, consult your doc. My kids never liked Pedialyte either, but they would suck on popsicles. That got liquid into them. Don't worry, he'll eat when he's ready, and make up for lost time. Kids around 2 don't eat near as much as they did when they were younger because they're not growing so fast. Good luck.

I say stop giving him the popsicles. I mean if my son had his way he'd eat nothing but marshmallows and cookies. I'm his mom though, so I don't let him get away with that. I do understand though, its hard sometimes to tell when there is something more going on or when your toddler is just being a toddler! You mentioned that you tried cutting back on his milk. Is he drinking other fluids, or is all he getting the popsicles? If you are worried about keeping him hydrated, then I would make my own water popsicles... basically ice cubes on a stick. That way you can tell if its the cold soothing his gums from teething he likes, or if he's just going for the sugar. Plus he should get bored with water quicker than with fun popsicles. You can also try giving him frozen fruit in stead of popsicles... so at least he's getting some food. What does he do with soft foods too? Like mashed potatoes or oatmeal? If his gums are sore those might be good alternatives for him. Odds are its just a phase he's going through. I'd keep an eye on his weight and if this goes on for another week or so you may want to call the dr and ask about adding in a vitamin or nutrient supplement. As long as he stays hydrated and does not start losing weight, you should not have anything to worry about.

This is something doctors and nurses call the BRAT diet. Follow it and the diarrhea will stop. This is tried and true.
Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast
---
My son was really sick at about 20 months. Throwing up and diarrhea for about a week. Doctor at ER diagnosed strep throat without doing a test. Gave him antibiotics that my family doctor says kept the diarrhea up and worsened it. He was furious. My son got this terrible diaper rash from the diarrhea..what a sin, I could cry just thinking back to that horrible time. My son was drained of important nutrients during that week...namely potassium. Bananas are a huge source of potassium.
----
That said, BRAT Bananas Rice Applesauce and Toast. That's all you feed him til the diarrhea stops.
No butter or anything on the toast. A nurse told me to mash banana and spread it on toast to make it taste better. It's actually pretty good. And applesauce, feed them these things till he wont eat no more. If you can get him to drink the pedialyte or freezies, do it. It will help replenish him.
Good luck, I hope this is all over soon.
I'm telling you BRAT diet. Write it down and follow it. You'll be glad you did ;)
Hope I've helped!

If this is the first day of this, try to get him to eat popsicles. Don't stress the food too much--sounds like his tummy won't hold it anyway. Fluids are the most important. Try to stick with the fruit juice/icy pops, rather than ice-cream ones, as those don't have very much fluid and will be hard on his stomach.
Keep track of how many wet diapers he's having, also. If they go down to one a day, or if they smell WAY worse than normal, you want to call the doctor, since he's well into dehydration, and little ones get urinary tract infections and kidney infections pretty easily when dehydrated.

Try popsicles made from 100% fruit juice. DO NOT give him popsicles with sugar or sugar substitutes as it will not allow his body to repair. Sugar is a neurotoxin and artificial sugars are simply poison. You can make your own with juice and popsicle makers, although it would take several hours. No matter how sick a child gets, they usually don't refuse popsicles. R. W. Knudsen (usually found at health food stores) makes a drink called "Recharge" it is an exclusively fruit juice sweetened type of "Gatorade" drink. It helps to restore electrolytes without shocking the body with sugar. You can either try to have him drink this, or even make popsicles out of it. Good luck.

Use a medicine syringe (like to give liquid medicine) and give him sips of water like that every 5-15 minutes. If he is sick like that for more than 24 hours you need to take him to see a doctor. At this point worry about fluids not food. Good Luck!

Ah that is so sad and scary when your baby isn't feeling well. I would take him to the Dr. and have him checked out asap. I have given my kids Popsicles when they wouldn't hold anything down. Good luck! I hope your baby gets better soon.

He problably has a stomach virus. My son had it and had those same symptoms. You need to keep him hydrated. Give him a couple of tsps of clear liquid you don't want to over do it if he can't hold it down. He'll eventually eat.
