Much as I'd like to say "yes" -- not necessarily.
People are atheists for various reasons.
Some are indeed quite intelligent, and have arrived at their conclusions regarding the non-existence of supernatural beings by reason and logic. Some are just pissed off at a particular religion. Just like any other group of people (and yes, that means christians, too) -- there are smart ones and not so smart ones.

But I will say one thing: *ANYBODY* who wants to take a certain stance on belief who does it just because somebody else does it is making a mistake. It's a bad idea to be religious just because somebody you think is smart is religious, and it's a bad idea to become atheist just because somebody you think is smart is atheist.

Decide what you believe for yourself, for your own reasons, and using your own methods. Inevitably, logic, reason, and science will most likely lead to disbelief in supernatural gods...but unless somebody arrives at that conclusion through reason, they're not doing themselves any favors.

Well, most Asians are atheist and statistically they score the highest on SAT scores :P

Plus, Marie Curie was an atheist- I don't think you could call her dumb, right?

Of course, there are plenty of brilliant Christians too, like Issac Newton.

atheists can be smart in regards to science, facts or basically anything of this world, they can also be well versed in scripture and history all be it selective at times. christians can also be very smart and can incorporate the things not of this world but of god into their intellect and comprehension. not all atheists are smart, some are ignorant, not all christians are smart and can also be ignorant. tell your friend to look around and do some research before delving into a world without god in his life.

Pretty much. The only real problems with Atheists are that [much like Christians], they tend to get overzealous of their beliefs, and they get closed minded near anything weird.

The operative word would be 'christian'. No true Christian can ever be swayed against God. Evidently who ever it was claimed the name of Jesus but did not truly know who He really was. If they had, they could not be swayed. May God Bless

To deny God will someday prove to anybody to be the stupidest thing in the world.

A little fact. 100% of all people die. What happens after. Guess we will all find out. If you're, I'll rot in the ground. If you're wrong, you'll burn in Hell. It's your gamble.
