Watched a show on how a garbage collector collected antiques and valuables thrown in the trash.
Did anyone every find anything this way?

I don't, but my daughter does. She is a Dumpster Diver Extraordinaire! She has found many neat, useful items, including a new Dirt Devil bagless vacuum cleaner. It was clogged, but the problem was quickly and easily solved.
She has also gotten usuable furniture, household items, etc.
I think it's a great way to recycle items that would otherwise go to the garbage dump.

I used to take stuff that was set outside to go for the next trash day, or I would ask someone if I could take it if it was out the day before. Now I'm old and tired so I don't. ;) I did find some amazing antiques in those days. It's crazy what gets thrown away.

I have always been envious of the KIND of person who would be able to do such a thing because you really would be suprised to see what some people throw out!
Trash here... Goes in a flash. People are on your trash like stink on crap here... I think its a southern thing?
I actually had two people trying to take a rug from my trash that was hand woven... but it had PUTRID chocolate milk vomit all over it (It laid out in the sun for a day in 98 degree heat! and it was a delicate lime green and floral print...So it was noticible.
I practically had to beg the woman trying to take it to leave it be... Some people will take and recycle anything and Im certain that they do find great things... My rug however was not worth trying to clean...
I for one will NEVER dumpster dive!
Unless I just happen to notice a Koitsu or an Utamaro Woodblock print sticking out of the Skip, and it is in PRISTINE condition... and I have gloves on me... You won't catch me bothering!
That is just disgusting!

Yes you can find awesome things, I found a solid cherry wood powder table worth almost 3 grand, although when i found it, it didnt look that way, but a lot of stripper and a little varnish and it's gorgeous.
