If a 10 year old girl gets pregnant, should she have an abortion?

The girl in question already had an abortion, before I asked this. Thanks for your support, saying she did the right thing.

Yes i think that she should have an abortion because having a kid at that age would destroy her body and would proably make her not be able to have kids later on in life. I am sure a 10 year old girl would not be wanting a baby and the parents would not want to make their 10 year old to go through all of that.

Wow, there are a lot of really bad answers here. This is a question that is best answered rationally and with facts and NOT with personal opinions about the girl, her parents, or the father of the child.

It IS possible for a 10 year old to get pregnant. There have been cases where girls as young as 5 have gotten pregnant. If it were not possible for a 10 year old to have a child, she would not have gotten pregnant.

Is it wise for her to give birth to the child? That is to be determined by the doctor and the 10 year old's parents. In no circumstance should a 10 year old be forced to raise a child to 'teach her a lesson'. This would be detrimental to both the 10 year old and the baby that would suffer as a result.

Although having a child can be emotionally damaging, an abortion can also be very traumatic...now and in the future when the 10 year old has had time to think about the child that might have been. At least with adoption, she will find some comfort in knowing the baby will be loved.

That depends on the situation. She had to have already gone through puberty to even get pregnant. She shouldn't be getting pregnant at that age or even be active, but should it happen she needs to talk to her parents, Dr, and the father. If she decided to have one she would have people their with her. If she decided not to, the Doctor would give her the risks either way, and how much it is gonna take out of her and tear her up just to have it. She needs to get all the facts. Although a 10 year old should not raise a child. That's why the parents and Doctor should give her advice and help her through the decision. But no one other than those involved should really make the decision. By the way, hopefully the father is about the same age and they should both be given a talk to by their parents. If the father is an adult he should be locked up. Girl also needs to go on birth control pills if she does get an abortion.

First I would like to say that ANY female that has started her period, can in fact get pregnant. Our son was in the second grade when a classmate (8yrs old) started hers. That being said, If she is truly pregnant, the 1st thing that should be done is to find out who the father is & have them charged with rape. There is no way in hell that a 10yr old child can consent to sex. After taking care of that, I would not add to her emotional trauma by forcing her to have an abortion. No, she is not old enough to be a mom. There needs to be some serious family support there for her. As to adoption, that can be as traumatic as an abortion. This is a situation, where there are no winners.

First to answer Jorge, yes a 10 year old can get pregnant. If a 10 year old is having her periods that means ovulation and ANY ovulating female regardless of age CAN get pregnant. All I can say about the abortion thing, if it were MY 10 year old yes I'd be at the doctor's office requesting an abortion, simply because of the health factor's involved...gestating to term and childbirth just might kill a 10 year old. (BTW back when I was in school I remember reading about a couple of young girls in the middleast who gave birth. One was nine years old when she became pregnant, she did die shortly after the birth of the child...the other turned eleven the day after she gave birth, never heard what became of her or her child.)

Yes she should have an abortion. She is only a child and no child should have to go through that. As for the parents - one has to wonder if the father is not responsible or the mother's boyfriend. There is something very wrong with this family when a 10 year old is getting pregnant.

First off... WTF?? Now that thats out of the way, thats very rare, as most 10 year olds have not started maturing sexually. However, I have heard of an actual case in the UK, (see below) a horrendous story! The blame in the UK case should go largely to the parents, however, if a child is attacked, it is the attacker's fault as well. Finally, to the question of abortion. An abortion should be carried as it is very dangerous for the girl as well as her baby if the pregnancy is allowed to continue. The physiological structure of a 10 year old is not designed to deliver or carry a baby. Though theoretically, a C-section can be performed, that would be dangerous for both. Both of them could possibly die. The baby will be premature and undersized, not to mention many other complications. The psychological problems would also be too much for the girl to face. However, her sensitivities should also be taken into account when thinking of an abortion.

First for a ten year old girl to become pregnant, she must already be ovulating and having her period.

I don't think ten year old girls are either mentally, emotionally or physically ready to have babies, however, if the situation now exists where she is pregnant, I don't think subjecting her to the trauma of an abortion would be the proper thing to do.

Maybe intense family counselling, some real guidance for the girl and her family and perhaps giving the baby up for adoption would be the best thing for the family.

First of all at 10 years old I wasn't even thinking about having a baby, I was more intrested in my Barbies..But yes abortion should be an option, I don't even think a 10 years olds body can handle the mental or physically being..

Jeez, I am no doctor, I am also against abortion in most situations. However, I can't imagine how a 10year old's life would not be in jeopardy giving birth to a child. If she's at risk then abortion is OK.
