I'm not sure where people on here get there info, but being stationed with the marines at camp pendleton, ca I can easily say that they are stretched very thing. Right now alot of my buddies are on a 6 to 8 months on deployment and then 4 to 6 months in.. mostly it depends on what unit they are with. Part of the USMC battalion I deployed with last summer and we returned in August is actually due back in Iraq at the end of Jan to beginning of Feb. That's a whole lot quicker then your 6 month deployment and 18 months back at home.. so I'd say no, we couldn't handle a major concentratioin of forces in our current situation.l

Our military is stretched so thin now that if another war comes we shall have to make a decision and that will be which war is more important to fight, we do not have the troops to go anywhere else and not any hopes of our armed forces meeting the quotas set for future inlistments.

The truth can be seen in the number of National Guardsmen we need to keep on a permanent active status. These are supposedly the last resort troops we use before a draft, but we have huge numbers stuck in Iraq.
So, no. If we had another outbreak we would be hard pressed to put boots on the ground. We could bomb the enemy into next week, but if they needed serious ground support, we would have to begin pulling from the Iraq mission.

I don't know where people get the idea that we, (the US military) is too thin to do much any more.
Per DOD report, as of 30 Sept 2005, we have, just in all the reserve branches, 828,990 people. And that has nothing to do with current active duty levels.
Just another media spin I guess.

The military is fine. It's the sellouts at home who are tired of hearing about war that can't handle it.

PS this is not world war two. We can relocate our entire military anywhere on earth in under two weeks. We have incredible air and missile power, and there is no large concentration of enemy forces anywhere comparable to ours, let alone our allies.

How fast did we topple Saddam? How fast did we win in Afghanistan?

People seem to have trouble with the difference between voluntary occupation and peacekeeping and actual warfare.

Per Colin Powell, our military can't handle the war we are in already in right now. He says that our military isn't big enough to carry out all the "W" is wanting to carry out. So, my answer is unequivocally NO!

I strongly believe that no matter how undermanned and overworked we are , that our military is the best and strongest in the world . I do think that a draft would be implemented however , and I think our troops would be re-allocated according to our greatest need .

the American military can handle several wars at one time,if it were to unleash the full military might,it can destroy several country's at once, but political correctness, and liberals concerns for the life of Americas enemy's,instead of American lives, has effectively neutered our military,so 2007 will bring the end of American life as we know it,break out the prayer rugs,or die!

Yes, reports of our military being stretched thin is propaganda.
We might not be in the best position to take China on, but Iran, Syria, and North Korea would all be easy money.
