Certainly. However, too much heat will cause the proteins in the egg and milk to fix and agglomerate. You'll see threads and blobs in your egg nog. It'll still be consumable, just not as aesthetic. Also you should keep it either cold or hot since it is a decent medium for growing bacteria and the amount of rum added usually is not enough to prevent growth.

yes. it's a lot better cold. it almost seems to cook if you heat it.
