If Scotland were playing football against a team out side the UK most English people would support Scotland. So why is it not the case the other way round. Why ABE. I know our history, but it is now nearly 2007. Could it be because of the arrogant south east?

I really don't know. I live in Scotland and it amazes me that in this day and age there's still this bigotry going about. The Scots will say it's only a joke and a laugh, but during the World Cup a young boy and a disabled man were beat up for wearing England shirts. It's ridiculous.

The Scots go on about being independent but research has shown that Scotland can't survive economically on it's own. Each year for the last 10 years (on which the study was taken, subtracting outcome from income from Scottish exports only) showed that during the best year Scotland was £1.1 BILLION in debt.

There's a part of me that wants to give Scotland it's independence, just so the country can fall apart under it's own arrogance.

I am English and I lived in Scotland for two and a half years believe me HISTORY still plays a big part up there. Most of the Scots walk around with a chip on their shoulders to this day. They are still VERY clannish up their and if you are from south of the border they wouldn't give you a chance. We came back to England last December, we should have done it sooner. I was ripped off in many ways by the Scottish people. Their so called fail safe sell a house in Scotland failed me, there is someone up there walking around several thousands of pounds of my money because they broke a contract I had with them. I hope she rots in whatever place she goes to after this life. I would most certainly advice anybody who is not scottish to stay out of Scotland. They financially ruined me!

Why are so many of you out there so bigoted? You condemn a nation based on the actions of some not all of them. Everyone is an individual and should be treated as such regardless of where they come from. You know on applications where it asks for race? I always mark another box and put HUMAN. Get to know someone on a personal level and don't 'generalise' - you are missing out on a lot of good people - and I don't just mean Scots vs English - this is to everyone who shuns someone because of where they were born.

I'm sure for the same reason the English and the French have traditionally not got along. It's a rivalry passed down for generations. It probably goes alot deeper than the arguably "arrogant south east".

It's much cheaper to hate the English as they are next door, (a Scotsman canna turn down a bargin like that,)
The truth is despite being enslaved by the Vikings and made fun of by the Irish and Welsh, it's the English that dressed them in kilts when they introduced civilization to the assorted Celtic tribes.
No man from a cold windy country can ever forgive being dressed in a skirt and conned into believing it's a national tradition.

Given that they are so canny, one must believe that they have very good reasons. Perhaps it has to do with the English condescending attitude to all Celts. I don't accept that Scotland is economically dependent on England. Sure didn't they say the same thing about Ireland.

See verse 2 of "The National Anthem"
Also something about us stealing all their North Sea gas.

However with their own Scottish ( and Welsh) parliaments they have got us to butt out of their business....except they can still vote in the London parliament and affect things in England!.....

and Mel Gibson had to go and drag it all up again with " Braveheart"

however , are you sure you have a representative group of Scots ????
( football supporters)?
