You might want too start by telling her that it is only for bedtime and that it stays at home if she goes out. My mother did that with my youngest sister from the time she could understand and she gave it up easily.

You can also try getting her involved in something that would be hard to do with that in her mouth.

As a last resort, you can just tell her that she is too big for that now and take it away. I would not do that until she is using it a lot less than she is now.

Personally, I don't like to see a child that age walking around with a pacifier in her mouth all the time.

I thought my son would never let his go. Here is what I used. First start telling her that it is nasty and big girls don't use them. Then cut a very tiny hole in the nipple of the paci. This will allow her to put it in her mouth but it will have no suction to it. Do this to all her paci's so she doesn't thinks it's just the one that is broken. She eill eventually lose interest in it, or hate it because it doen't work anymore. It worked wonders for my son, and I didn't have to listen to all the screaming because he wanted it back.

You have two choices.

A) Do nothing....sooner or later she will decide she is done. I doubt she will take a pacifier on her first date!

B) Cold turkey baby! Just take them all away and be done. The first day or two will suck but then it will be easier. I took my kids away and they were fine after a much shorter time than I expected.

Good Luck!!!!!

well we slowly got rid of one then another and another till there were no more. we got down the the "crap" ones, the ones he didn't care for before, but he used them, and when we got to the very last one, it mysteriously disappeared too. and i would put my son to bed and tell him i would look for it, and if i found it i would bring it to him, he would always fall asleep waiting, and after 3 nights of looking he told me it was missing and i told him, he didn't need it he sleeps like a big boy with out it, he would ask occasionally, but it took about 2 weeks before he stopped asking! i got lucky it was easy.

Rub all of them (ALL OF THEM) in something that is ok for children to eat but tastes and smells very yucky.

She will whine, cry, throw tantrums etc etc etc... but if you keep giving her ones that taste bad, and just say "maybe the binkies know you are too old for them now and its time to give them to littler babies".

It worked for my little cousin.

My youngest daughter is going to be 4 in Feb. and she just recently gave hers up. I think your little one will soon be giving hers up as well, don't harass her about it, please that will make her wonder why it is so important that she give it up and also she know that she is getting your attention through that binky.... Act as though it doesnt exist. For example if she wants you to help her find it ask her questions like Why cant you find it yourself and tell her if she wants it she has to find it...Trust me it wworks..

When she's done with it, she'll be done with it. As my pediatrician pointed out, how many college kids do you see with pacifiers in their mouths? As adults, we should be so lucky to find something so simple that makes us so happy. Lay off and let it run its course.....i made the rule it could only be used in bed. Good luck!
