The kids can be kind of whiney. Is there anything that would be really fun for them to do that will keep them busy for a couple of hours at the most

Introduce them to myspace! J/K. If they have a game system, rent a few video games.

Find a couple of good videos and popcorn with the parents permission of course. Make some popcorn but you do have watch them with the stove as they are likely to get burnt. That should be fun. If they are boys then kicking a ball around with them is a good idea. Cooking can be a fun activity for both sexes.

Board games are always good for children that age. Sometimes games can take quite a while and they are entertaining. You want to make sure it is challenging enough so they don't get bored! When all else fails, pop in a movie. You could have them help you make some popcorn or cookies for a snack. I work with children and these seem to be the things that this age group enjoys. Good luck!

Helping you bake cookies. Kids love to help give them each separate jobs but them seem so great. You can even make clean fun just make it a barred treasured hunt.. you don't have to help with that one. they will be busy for hours and the parents will love you. I babysat a lot so I know what you are going though find out what movies or computer games they like and use that for your advantage and never let get to you or at least show it.

Good luck and happy holidays.

If your interested in another fun project for the kids I might suggest chocolate clay its very much like playing with play-dough but its 100% edible and not very messy at all (to make chocolate clay melt down 1 part chocolate (Dark, milk, white, which ever you like the most) and 1 part light corn syrup (the melting of chocolate takes place at around 100 degrees and is a lot more safe than sugar work) then all you do is wait for it to cool and with your hands knead in powdered sugar until it becomes as soft or as hard as you like... after that you can use it to make chocolate flowers, animals, well really anything your imagination can come up with

The holidays are coming, you can purchase some popcorn to string on the tree or to decorate the house with while watching a holiday movie. You can also make "ginger bread" houses out of graham crackers, white frosting and misc candies on a paper plate. You could make cards for their loved ones or friends. These are all activities me and my daughters, 5 and 7 years old, will be doing this weekend!

Well since it's so close to christmas. Why don't you try to make an ornament with them? Get them to make ornaments and other decorations for the tree and around the place. I have a good candy cane craft that you could do with them.
get some paper
crayons and scotch tape.

First, get the child to colour some stripes vertically on one side of the paper
Then get them to take a crayon, put it on one corner of the paper (stripes on outside) and roll the paper around the crayon.
Then tape the other corner of the paper onto the rolled up crayon. Leave just a little bit of room to get the crayon out.
Once the crayon's out, take one end of the paper. With the crayon, roll one part of it and then take the crayon out. There you got a Candy Cane!
Merry Christmas

If they still believe in Santa, make reindeer dust:

mix oatmeal and glitter and whatever else you can think of...peanuts, corn flakes, cereal...

tell them to sprinkle it all over their lawn on christmas eve and the glitter will sparkle in the night and help santa find their houses, and the reindeer will eat the food.

my kids love it!

Or mix flour and water until you get a dough...then let them have at it and it will keep them busy for hours!
