There is already enough fantasy in schools.
Seriously, no school ever bans a book. They simply don't select it. Just because something is popular does not mean that it beneficial to the student.

Sort of a badge of honor to be banned. It is usually the mark of a book that has touched some sore spot.
In this case it is the fundamentalists who are practicing their own form of magic who are threatened. They think the stupid will believe anything is real. Well, they ought to know. They have been preaching nonsense for a very long time.
So, yes, they are threatened and they behave in their cowardly fashion of trying to isolate their congregation and ban the Potter series.
I've read the entire series and found J.K.Rawling's writing to be cleverly done. The series is action oriented with something interesting happening in each chapter. The books are far better than the movies although the movies are not too bad. They appeal to both children and adults. I'm 65 years old. I look forward to the last book and anything else JKR writes.

I could say it's because they don't want their kids reading or have an imagination. Seems anything that encourages kids to read and is fantasy is not permitted. Could be because they are afraid to lose control over their children?
However, I think it's more because they see us as a threat, as some sources have been quoted as saying paganism, and that includes witchcraft, is the largest growing movement/religion in the US right now.
So, anything that would encourage kids towards asking questions about this, and this includes Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia (written by a well known and admired Christian but includes a witch), Wizard of Oz and more stories that include witches, magic or anything that seems "perverse" to their tiny minds are now being "banned".
Again, as I started out saying, it is a matter of control. The churches want to control their membership, and not allow all that cash to walk away from them. The membership want to pass on that control to their children. And we have a vicious cycle presenting itself here.
The three C's - Christianity, cash and control... probably explains it all.

Are they actually banning them? That's pretty screwed up, but the ones running America right now are retarded, Fundamentalist Christians, who are foaming at the mouth to burn books, or at least censor them ,as well as any other form of art or literature that doesn't meet their "high moral standards". That's just the reality we live with. A strangely familiar reality, where have I heard of this behavior before? Oh that's right, WW2, the Nazis, open your history books, kids. But there is something you can do, if it bothers you, write letters, sign petitions, boycott. Technically, this is still a free country.

It's banned because of the witchcraft and wizardry. Very un Christian. The only book allowed to have magicians is the Bible. Every other magician is an abomination

Actually, it's not - just from crazy religious schools where somehow the people haven't figured out that witchcraft doesn't work, and Harry Potter doesn't endorse satanism.

DUH!
Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Because if we are going to kick religion out of schools, then that should include sorcery.
If there are no childrens books on Noahs Ark, I dont want any childrens books about witchcraft either.
Tit for Tat. You started it.

Because they realize that if all us Potter fans got together we could use our power to change the world, and they don't want our numbers growing.
