I give my dog a bath almost every day. I told my friend about it and she told me that it is not a good idea. She says she only bathes her dog once every two weeks because that's what the Vet told her to do. According to the Vet, dogs should be given baths once every two weeks. She said that the dog's skin gets dry and flaky if it is given a daily bath. Is this true? I mean, I can't imagine myself taking a bath once every two weeks. I know I'm not a dog, but I would think that our skin is more delicate than a dog's.... I haven't seen anything wrong with my dog's skin either.

If you haven't noticed anything with your dog's skin that is good. Still, a daily or almost daily bathing routine is too much for a dog and it can cause some problems eventually. Try cutting it back to once a week. It's the soap that is a concern and hard water.

Giving A Dog A Bath

you should not have to bathe your dog that often. It's bad for their skin. Depending on the dog, once a month is sufficient. I have a lab mix that I bathe about 2 times a year. She has a great shiny coat and doesn't smell at all. I know not all dogs can be like that but don't put your dog through a daily bath....she's probably in agony from how dry her skin is getting.

The dog should not be bathed every day. It will dry out their skin and you can face some serious skin problems. Dog's skin is different than our skin. Yes, we as humans would stink really bad if we took a bath once every two weeks, but it is different for dogs. I bathe my dog once a month, and only if he needs it. Other than that, if he is just kind of dirty, I bought some special waterless bath wipes for dogs.

Do NOT give your dog a bath every day! I can't imagine taking a bath every 2 weeks either but that's because we are humans! If u bath your dog everyday it's skin WILL get dried out or it could lead to even more serious problems!
Think of it this way dogs' closest relative is a wolf. they do not bathe every day. It is dogs' nature to not bathe everyday.

Giving a dog a bath everyday can really dry out your dog's skin. Usually every two weeks or so is good. When you do give him a bath, use a really good dog shampoo. Use one that won't strip the natural oil out of his skin.

Absolutely. By bathing the dog daily you are washing out oils needed for a healthy skin and coat. Check with your vet about how often you can bathe the dog. I would say not more than monthly unless he/she gets muddy and needs to be bathed.

Hey, you are going to cause mucho problems if you keep giving that dog a bath that often..

you had better go to a vet and they will tell you how often they should have a bath.

I was the owner of a dog kennel. You never give a dog a bath unless it is really important. In the winter, where it is cold, you never give them a bath.

That is way to often. You're only supposed to bath them every 6 weeks, from what the Petland counselor told me when I bought my dog. She also said that Vet's recommend that you only bath them once a year. They could only be saying that health wise and not considering the smell.

That is too much. I have 6 dogs. A basset hound who has more oil than all the dogs put together but that is how basset hounds coats are supposed to be. A golden retriever is only supposed to be washed two-three weeks. I mean honestly dogs are way different than humans in hygine ways. It hurts the skin by making it to dry for the animal. A human is always repairing itself from the stuff we do to it. DON'T do that to your dog.
