All BS aside...The advise about the Toyota is good solid advise. I also like Nissan. Toyota and Nissan seldom need work, get good mileage, have affordable insurance rates, are good for many many miles of driving and are very reliable.

Make sure you do your homework--Take it to a Mechanic of YOUR choice for an opinion before signing on the dotted line. Might cost a few bucks but it's worth it. You would also get more for your money buying from a private party (especially an *older person) rather than a dealer (Same advice I gave my Daughter)

Good Luck

A small, 4 cylinder car. Probably either a honda or a toyota, no preference in either. Oh, and I'd take the time to make sure that it works properly.

Brand name wouldn't be as important as mechanical soundness. A car is just to get you from A to B; it's not a style statement. Something that's reliable and has a low cost of ownership.
