First, make sure that mommy and puppies are in a warm place with no drafts. I would never keep them in your bedroom, or you will not get any sleep for the next few weeks. I personally keep my mother and her puppies in an over sized dog crate with baby bumper pads around it to make sure there are no chance of harm to the pups.

Next, get a small kitchen scale and weight the puppies daily for the first 2-3 weeks. Keep a record of the weights. This will help you make sure that they are getting the proper food from their mother. I always have a puppy baby bottle and formula on hand, just in case I have to suppliment the mother.

It is common for a large litter (and 7 is a large litter) to loose a few pups. My Shih Tzu had a litter on October 30th of 7 and she lost two of her pups. The first one died quickly, but the second one lingered on. She ended up suffocating it because it wasn't getting any bigger and was very ill.

I hope this helps!

Some mother dogs will lay on their pups.I had one I had to keep seperate from it's litter. If you do that you have to put them togeter every two hours day and night so the pups can nurse. This is a lot of work but I save 13 of 15 pups.Whem you put them together wact to make sure no one is getting mashed. When I done this the two pups died before I seperated them.

Mama pug might have suffocated the one knowing it would die. Most litters have one or two (sometimes 3) that won't make it.She probably did the one a favor by putting it out of its misery.Dogs do have a sense of this stuff. I agree with the oter answer of helping Mama keep them warm and safe.

If your pug is a first time mother you will need to watch her very closely to make sure she is feeding the pups properly. New mother's need to be watched carefully.

maybe you should move the pups into your room and keep an eye on them. also when you move them move them with a towel so the momma doesn't think somebody else has been messing with them. (trust me, it will happen.)
