it probably means the details they have about you got mixed up or the car could be regetered to someone else with the dvla but still at your own adress, even the cops and dvla make mistakes. Chances are if you got the ticket you are not going to be able to get out of it.

No. Sometimes mistakes are made. If the ticket is taken to court and the officer cannot identify the suspect then the ticket is dropped. I have had suspects provide me their brothers name and date of birth, and when they show up to court and i do not recognize them i pull the tape before dismissing the ticket. If they know the person that used their information. Either way the suspect will be identified. And charges of forgery, false information to a law enforcement officer and other charges would be brought against them.

Speeding tickets are issued to the registered keeper of the vehicle. If the details on the ticket are wrong, i.e. they weren't driving the vehicle at the time of the offence, it's down the keeper to put them right. If you write in and say that the details are wrong, they'll only ask you for the correct ones.
Take the fine and three points, it's cheaper than contesting it in court.

should contact the concerned authority for correct information. If you are sincere to Govt and beleive govt is for the people, by the people, declare yourself to the traffic police and get it corrected if you voilated the speed limits - Dont forget you can be escaped from police but not from your heart and Creator of whole universe who knows each and every thing of your life, will be given in your hands on the day of Judgement. If a person advices other fellow human being to do good, righteous thing which is acceptable to the Creator of whole universe, Owner of the day of Judgement, rewards will be added till that person go on performing it without any deduction in his rewards, similarly punishment for a person who advised another person to do a evil thing. So fear ALLAH, try to find the path which leads successful life of this world and Hereafter, helpful to every human being irrespective of muslims or non muslims in finding the TRUE PATH AND TRUE RELIGION.

Depends on alot of things:
Can the cop physically ID you?
Did the cop have your license or other form of ID document?
Is the judge pro or anti cop?
Generally speaking, clerical errors will NOT get you 'off' as some others have suggested. That is, unless the officer is stupid enough to fall for the cross examination question: "Do you ever make mistakes on the job?"

If a ticket has incorrect details on it'll be because you gave incorrect details (which is an offence) or the PC misheard you then it is irrelevant.
Either way you aint getting out of it, and you'll find by ignoring it you'll be summonsed to court.

If the officer got the vehicle data correct, the judge is not going to dismiss it on a technicality, like date of birth off by one digit.

no, most likely a citation ammendment will be submitted by the officer and forwarded to the court and a copy sent to you. Either way the citation is valid. BTW did you give him a correct or altered or damaged ID?
