in the human race opposites are necessary. I would assume it's the same for all animals,plants and fishes.

Yes, but they don't necessarily make for good long-term relationships. Many times the "opposite" person will seem intriguing, interesting, and fun. However, without having things in common, without common goals, values, and priorities, then you're just asking for trouble.

To some extent, yes. We place value on others who possess traits or characteristics that we do not have. It makes up for our self-imposed deficiencies.
