I, too, have respect for both. It's time some people stop branding all for the actions of a few. Look around you, don't you think that there are bad grocers, cabbies, dentists, lawyers, gas station attendants, etc., etc.? It's easy to denigrate the police, but could the detractors do that job? If it was easy, everybody would be a Law Enforcement Officer. To the critics, I say next time you have a problem, call your best friend and see if he would be willing to help you. Hopefully it won't be a life or death situation.

To L.E.Os, God bless

~I notice for every person who disagreed for ANY reason about the Police, they got a thumbs down. The police here do NOT have my respect. They're well known around here for being dirty. Sure there are good police, but you can't deny there are BAD ones too!
I don't respect all police, but I do respect the Fire Dept.
Merry Christmas~

Boy! This would have been a lot easier (and more accurate) if you had separated them.

Fire department yes.
It is a volunteer fire department and I know many of them personally.

Don't really have local police - have a sheriff and state police. I haven't really had much experience with either.

I think that the sheriff department is so-so.
They've really been abusive to some, but seem to be fairly competent overall. I voted for a different sheriff in the last election (who lost).

The State police seem to be OK.

well yes i do have high respect for both ..my husband is a police officer and also my brother in law. you know for the job that officers do they don't get paid enough. We have small children who wonder if their daddy might not come home the next morn. from working mids....the garbage that this world expects them to clean up is getting almost immpossible to handle, and shame on anyone who doesn't respect them, maybe it's because your not praying for them....don't dis someone until you have prayed for them diligently. It's knida like someone who doesn't vote...but thinks he/she has the right to say anything and everything bad bout the person who is elected. someone has to do the job, and yes there are alot of bad or corrupt people in this world but dont put them into the same catagory together w/ the good:)

I used to have respect for law enforcement in general but the last few years my respect is not as freely given. Too many times the police has overstepped the boundary between common sense and senseless violence. I personally know of officers too drunk for duty, go to work, arrest people for DWI, all the while just as or maybe more drunk than the people they are arresting and all this is commonly covered up by the Blue Wall of Silence. Although their press releases say such a thing doesn't exist maybe you can tell me why the only friends a cop has is other cops and they all think everybody is out to get them. This is paranoia and anti-social behavior and anybody that isn't in law enforcement would be locked up in a mental ward on anti-psychotic drugs or at least in therapy. I have a distinct feeling that most of these people think that they are above the law and the fact that they are allowed to wear a weapon automatically gives them authority. They seem to forget quite easily who pays their salary. Firemen, on the other hand, usually risk their lives without compensation and at a great inconvenience to their families and careers. Firemen always get and deserve my highest respect.

YOU ARE CORRECT, They do not get the respect they deserve. They both put their lives on the line every day and for damn little pay. For those complaining about your PD, next time a pay issue comes up go to bat for them. Better pay = better employees
FD, volunteers are the grreatest, they are there because they want to. But that is not to say paid FFs are bad, I just found a little higher esprit de corps in volunteers.

Hey gee-gee I read about that in the paper. I some bros who live down the Florida. The only problem I see is they didn't shoot that bastard enough times. You know he wounded that cop, then walked up to him and shot him in the head twice, cold blooded murder. Another thing swat teams use M5's they shot about 10 or 12 shots a second if 10 people shot for 1 second that is 120 shots. So the Cops only shot for one second. Get the facts then judge!

Respect is something that Firemen and Police deserve...Without them, Who would save the lives of those who are in danger, from others or themselves?
