I am pretty sure that installation is free when you purchase the phone. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

I own a business telephone system company in the Southwestern United States. We charge $75 per hour. A handyman installing a residential, single line phone would probably charge less. Depends on where you live and if you need phone cable/jack installed.
Most phone service providers provide cable installation services then all you have to do is plug the phone into the jack. Qwest, for example, charges about $95 per hour.

You don't know anyone that can do that? You can probably do it yourself if you just look up the directions. It's pretty easy as long as you have a phone connection with a jack in the room or house allready. you just need to get a splitter and wire and another jack. If it'a a brand new line the phone /co. should put it in for you if you are paying for a seperate line. Ask a friend to do it and give him a few bucks. it's not difficult but the professionals will charge more than it's worth.

Are you having a phone line installed or just a phone?
If you already have the line and the inside outlet all you have to do is plug it in.
If you don't have the line
then the phone company will have to install the line. NOT a handyman.
In either case you can plug in the phone yourself.
The phones can be purchased from the phone co. and charged to your monthly statement or go to a discount store and purchase it yourself / lots cheaper. They are Not free though!
