A fall from Grace. Living in unrepented sin. I believe there are alot of backsliders that fill church pews as well not realizing they have a serious problem.
:)
Be blessed.

I agree with your definition but to the unsaved it's probably not very clear. When a person is SAVED they should do the best they can to live like a child of God not a child of the devil. For instance, when I got saved I quit drinking strong drink, stopped wearing pants (wearing that which pertains to a man), started being submissive and obedient to my husband, quit singing in a rock band. Now, if I were to go back to drinking or go back to wearing pants, or go back to bossing my husband around or go back to singing in a rock band then I would be in a backslidden state.

It is a time when someone falls backward ( Isaiah 28:13).
The serious backsliding is when there is willful sin (Hebrews 6:4-6).

I think the whole concept of "back-sliding" is nonsense. God is always the same distance from you - HERE. Everybody has good and bad times; it doesn't mean they've become a bad person - it just means they're having a tough time for a while. For someone to judge them as a "backslider" is pretty arrogant, in my opinion. Worry about yourself - God can take care of ME just fine.

Turning away from God to something else.
Jer 3:6 The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

Backsliding: Being saved, but living as if you are not.
We are not saved by works but by grace. Therefore the good works we do are the result of salvation, not the cause of it. I do believe that after salvation, one can revert to being un-saved, but not just by committing a sin. One would have to consciously choose to renounce salvation.
