Actually people are spiritual by nature; religion just gives their egos a sense of absolution and order.

America was founded on the principal of religious freedom as the first immigrants from the old world came to the new world to escape religious persecution. That is why religion is such a big deal in America.

People are religious by nature, and since many Americans are people, they will tend to be religious. Sadly, a vast majority are only religious to the degree it gives them comfort or validates their world view. Many claim to be of a certain group or denomination because they were raised that way and they've never given it much serious thought. I know scores of Christians who have never read the Bible. And yes, cheeseburgers are dope.

More religious than Mexicans or South Americans? Do you include that as America? or are you talking civilized Western world?
Australians are also more religious than Europeans.

Perhaps because of handed down Puritan traditions.....

It is a tradition that dates back to the 1500's. The English and Dutch and other pioneers came to America to get out from under the Standard religion of Europe. By doing so they saved themselves from being burned at the stake. And so freedom of religion became a tradition in America. Even today freedom of religion in the United States is a paragon of excellence compared to other countries. There have been exceptions, of course (burning of the Branch Davidian Church is one example) but in most cases at least the government tries to maintain freedom of religion.

I can't answer for everyone in America, but I have studied Apologetics, Biblical Archeology, Textual Criticism, Philosophy, and Intelligent Design. The more I learn about these subject the more I am convinced that the God of the Bible is real.

How about you, are you irreligious because you don't like the idea of being responsible for your own sins? Or is it that you don't like the idea of not being the most advanced entity in the universe. Or have you just been muddle headed by atheistic dogma?

It's still a young country so Americans want to feel that they are together on a big issue. That's why our president is a Christian. He's an idiot. Americans are idiots. They're a country together! Works out.

And other countries get to laugh at them.
