My dog has been "Skunked" twice. The only thing that works is Peroxide, dish washing soap, water and baking soda. Here is the recipe.
1 cup water
1/2 cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap
MIX TOGETHER
When ready to wash the dog, add 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Work into the coat and leave it on for a few minutes. Then rinse thoroughly.

Tomato juice and tomato paste do not work. The over the counter shampoos for stink removal work but not as well as this recipe.

Good luck.

I had a Siberian Husky/Collie mix that looked like Lassie. Talk about a lot of long fur. She got sprayed by a skunk and we tried like 20 cans of tomato juice and it did not work. I finally filled up the kiddie pool with water and dumped 1 gallon of bleach in the pool and threw my dog in, being careful to to watch her face and eyes and only used this on her fur and it got rid of the skunk smell. Also i hear that they make dog shampoo to get rid of skunk smell.

two bottles of hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda
1 squirt liquid dish soap

Mix in a bucket (it will foam) Sponge on dig and let sit on for 10-15 minutes the longer the better

Rinse with plain water.

This works far far better than the tomato juice thing.
I have dogs who get skunked a couple of times per year and I keep this stuff on hand all the time.

You can purchase any of these products from a local pet store:

Skunk Off is applied topically and I believe no bath is required.

Skunk Odor Shampoo-for a bath

Natures Miracle Skunk Odor Remover is applied topically and I believe no bath is required.

Good Luck.

TOMATOE JUICE! Even though your dog will smell like a drunk itillalian and look like a drunk itallian midget it gets rid of the skunk smell. another possibility is that maybe it's not the dog who smells it maybe that the dog took a turd if so break out the pooperscooper

My dog got zapped this summer. You can try rubbing tomato jucie into the coat and wash it out. Or, get a dog shampoo made specifically for dogs sprayed by skunks. My groomer used one on my Siberian Husky and it worked well.

The same way you do a person.

Tomato bath,
(Yet it is a dog so be careful you don't get tomato on you)

Have another person comfeting the dog and making him/her feel better.

It should work like a charm
