Probably not the water itself...but most likely you were exposed to some form of bacteria that was in the water....throwing up was actually a good thing...that was your body's way of defending and ridding itself from the bacteria.....So...thank your body and remember to keep your immune system at it's best.....this could have been a lot worse...Good Luck!

If the jacuzzi water was contaminated with E. coli, that's possible. That sudden onset of gut-wrenching barfing within a couple of hours of ingesting the bacteria is typically caused by a poison produced by the bacteria, called endotoxin. Usually chlorine kills the bacteria and they don't get a chance to grow enough to produce enough endotoxin.

I would be more suspicious about something you ate that was contaminated by E. coli, like vegetables, mayonnaise, etc.

I remember a very graphic story told by one of my professors about a bunch of Shriners barfing into their fezzes after ingesting contaminated sandwiches/potato salad... :-)

It is likely that it was. Jacuzzi water left unattended is nothing more than bacteria brewing in a oversize pot and I'll let you figure out what is in the sauce.
