I use an old technique called a beauty wash. I use the cheapest Clariol Balsam dye and mix it, then pour half of the dye misture down the sink and fill the bottle back up with a good shampoo. I then apply it and leave it for 20-30 mins like the instructions say. After that, I rinse it out, shampoo again and condition. When it grows out, it fades more than grows from the roots making it very easy to re-do using the same process with very little damage to the hair. I am only going a shade or two lighter than my natural color but I never have roots showing and it is incredibly inexpensive. Plus after you do it a couple of times and save the bottles (wash them out good) you do not have to pour half down the sink, just only mix half at a time with the shampoo. It costs me less than $2 each time I color. This does not last as long as regular hair dye - only about 3-4 weeks but it does not damage your hair as much and it is easy and cheap to redo often.

Temporary hair colors are more gentle, and the temporary part is great if you are not sure how your hair will look when you try a color for the first time. I have had success with Clairol Natural Instincts. My hair feels better when I have done it because of the conditioner that is included.
Good Luck!

I would definitely go for a colour wash/colour rinse, it's better than a dye because that'll damage your hair even more.

Well, If you want to make your hair darker, you can dye it with black tea, and it will darken your hair 1 or 2 shades. Its a natural way to get a new look.

Just ask a hair dresser. Mine told me the same thing when I wanted to dye my hair light brown, so I got high lights instead. It depends on if your hair is strong enough and if you don't relax it a lot.

you should try the water rinse dyes that come off so that if you don't like it you won't have to damage your hair by dying your hair again.

well it depends on if you want your hair to be lighter or darker. I dyed mine darker(jet black) and I had no problem. but if you are looking to lift your hair color then I suggest that you get it done professionally.
